Tucson's First Jeweler

Arizona Daily Star, 6 Jun 1991
Arizona Daily Star, 6 Jun 1991
In Tuesday's post on Antonio Gallego Urias and Ignacia Terrazas, I included some news clippings from the Arizona Daily Star on reunions of the Urias family and recollections of their arrival in Tucson. Another news clipping is above, from 6 June 1991. The article includes a wonderful photo of Antonio's parents, Antonio Urias and Macaria Gallego.
Antonio & Macaria
Antonio was born on 2 March 1842 in Arizpe, Sonora. He moved to Tucson in the 1860s, and married Macaria Gallego on 26 December 1868. They appear in the 1870 US Census together in Tucson. Antonio's father, Mariano Urias, is listed in the household.

I have not been able to find Antonio in the 1880 US Census, but he does appear in early City Directories for Tucson.

On 4 September 1886, Antonio died of typhoid fever at the home of his father Mariano in Arizpe. I found a copy of the death record, which I will share in a subsequent post.
